OW2P is FCA's ongoing campaign

that has been developed to confront

the problem of drug use among

students.

In a survey of 125,000 coaches, over 90% of the respondents said the number one challenge they faced in dealing with their athletes is the problem of drug and alcohol use. And the problem is not just limited to athletes. It is a problem in every part of our society.
OW2P contains three critical elements that make this program one of the most effective in America. When we are talking about One Way 2 Play, FCA stands for Faith, Commitment and Accountability.

Faith they can receive wisdom to make and carry out good decisions.

Commitment to say “no” to alcohol and drugs, as well as helping others to keep their commitments and sign the commitment pledge. (Students have a 60% greater chance of following through on commitments that they sign.)

Accountability to their friends, group leaders and families in keeping their pledge. (Five key accountability questions allow students to have peer help. Students have a 85% greater chance of following through on their commitment if they stay accountable to a peer once a week.)

How it works:

-Students/Teachers talk with an FCA Staff member about a date to hold the OW2P event at their school
-Students/Teachers reserve a room to hold the OW2P event (Most schools do this at lunch in their gym. You can also hold this event as an assembly during class hours.)
-Students/Teachers invite coaches and their teams to come to the event

Bay Area OW2P Speaker:

Guy McIntyre

`Played in the NFL for 13 seasons ('84-'96)
`5-time All-Pro Lineman
`3-time Super Bowl Champion
`Inductee of the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame

Guy’s articulate, relevant message of motivation and success engages the most difficult to reach students with life-changing insight. Guy’s anti drug and alcohol message challenges and leaves youth excited about their lives and their future.

Much of Guy’s fire is fueled by personal experience. During his rookie season in the NFL, Guy became heavily involved in drugs and alcohol. The drugs and alcohol began affecting not only his play but his personal life. He realized he needed to make a change in his life or else he would no longer be living his dream of playing professional football. After hitting rock bottom and having nowhere to look but up, Guy dedicated his life to Jesus Christ. It was after this encounter with the Lord that he sought help from a man he trusted, Coach Bill Walsh, and admitted himself into a drug and alcohol rehabilitation facility. All this led to both a physical and spiritual transformation in his life and enabled Guy to go on andplay 13 seasons in the NFL and he never looked back.

Guy travels the Bay Area as one of our One Way 2 Play: Drug Free spokesman for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and communicates with relentless fervor to end drug use and abuse.
His articulate blend of an inspirational yet practical message leaves students gripped by his message and destined for change. High school principals, teachers and counselors have responded tremendously to his presentations, which confront current issues from peer pressure to positive values, from alcohol abuse to freedom from the chemical culture, from dropping out to academic leadership, and encouraging students who have made positive choices. A scholarship athlete and graduate of the University of Georgia, Guy has been playing or working for the San Francisco Forty-Niners, for more than 20 years. He is currently the 49ers Director of Alumni Relations amongst a series of various roles. Guy also serves as board member for FCA and is the headliner for the annual FCA Guy McIntyre Golf Classic Fundraiser.

Guy and his wife Kim were married in June of 2007.
